Description
The Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio 4K8 2TB is an all-in-one live production switcher designed for television studios, remote production, live venues, sports, and compact broadcast production environments.
It provides eight independent SDI video inputs with support for 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 12G-SDI, and HD-SDI signals. Each input includes a dedicated standards converter, allowing different 1080p or 720p sources to be converted to the switcher’s selected video standard. The switcher supports UHD 4K processing up to 60 fps with 10-bit 4:2:2 RGB processing.
The front panel provides direct access to source selection, transitions, video effects, recording, streaming, and auxiliary switching. A built-in T-bar provides manual transition control, while the integrated LCD audio mixer area provides live metering.
For video effects and compositing, the ATEM Television Studio 4K8 includes one DVE, four ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers, seven luma keyers, two downstream keyers, and a SuperSource multilayer processing engine with four additional DVE layers and a background layer. The DVE supports picture-in-picture compositions, resizing, positioning, and customizable borders, shadows, and lighting.
The built-in media pool stores broadcast-quality graphics and animations with RGB color and alpha channel support. It can store up to 20 HD-resolution stills, while motion graphics clips can be used for animations and stingers.
The switcher provides nine 3G-SDI program outputs and two dedicated auxiliary outputs for monitors and recorders. It also includes dedicated SDI and HDMI monitoring outputs and a 16-source multiview that can display video inputs, preview, program, tally indicators, labels, audio meters, and system status information.
Audio capabilities include a 58-channel mixer, MADI connectivity, analog audio inputs, and embedded SDI audio. SDI input audio channels can be routed to program and auxiliary outputs or sent to the MADI output for external audio mixing.
The integrated 2TB M.2 NVMe storage provides internal recording capability. Recordings are stored as H.264 video with AAC audio. External USB disks can also be used for recording, and internal and external storage can be shared over the local Ethernet network.
For streaming and computer-based production, the ATEM Television Studio 4K8 includes a built-in hardware streaming engine and USB webcam output. The USB connection can provide 1080p video to software that supports USB webcams, including streaming and video conferencing applications.
The switcher supports Blackmagic Cloud integration and can make program recordings available remotely. ATEM Software Control provides software-based switching, audio mixing, camera control, media management, macros, and HyperDeck recorder control.
Talkback connectivity is provided through dedicated XLR connections, while timecode, reference, Ethernet, RS-422, and USB-C connections support integration with broader production systems.
The unit includes both AC and 12 VDC power inputs. The internal power supply accepts 100 to 240 VAC, while the 12 VDC XLR connection can be used for backup power or battery-powered operation.
